Valentine’s Day Is Special For Your Honey. Don’t Be A Dope - Don’t Forget.

Valentine’s Day is that time of year when we go to the loved one bringing gifts. Of course, chocolate, flowers, or jewelry, may be on your list, but we want to share with you some Valentine gift ideas that will bring the smile on your partner’s face. Moreover, we do not want to show you expensive alternatives, but instead, alternatives that will make you look the best in the eyes of your loved one.
Your best approach begins with a thorough and thoughtful analysis of your true love’s interests and personality. You’re sure to create a memorable day when you begin here. If yours is a budding romance, you may capture your Valentine’s heart for good!
The most important thing about the perfect Valentine gift is its uniqueness. Do you find it hard? It is not; based on your Valentine’s likes and dislikes, you will know where to search for and what to avoid, at any costs. Whether your lover likes music, or writing, or going to the gym, or cooking delicious meals, or going fishing, or going to the theatre. There are so many things to choose from, that great Valentine gift ideas will just pop in your head.
If music is your lover’s interest, then some tickets to a concert held by their favorite artists will do just fine, especially if they are complemented with an elegant dinner at a restaurant.
If, instead, your Valentine wishes to become a great writer, a lot of gift are available, such as fine journals, fancy pens or books on how to write a book. I told you, you have a lot to choose from.
One new trend in Valentine gift ideas for cooks is the cooking class. These may be as simple as a one day course on bread making, a more elaborate weekend getaway at a bed-and breakfast where you and your true love learn the art of making sauces or a spectacular week long holiday for two in Italy learning the fine art of Italian cooking, complete with local excursions to vintners and cheese makers.
The fishing enthusiast will be thrilled with a surprise trip to a local river or lake resort. Look online for “fishing vacations” in your area for a more elaborate event. A trip out to sea for those bigger fish is another good Valentine gift idea.
If your lover is passionate with ballroom dancing, then giving them the opportunity t take part in some new lessons will be very much appreciated, as well as a fancy ballroom gown.
Remember why it is so important to make Valentine’s Day an occasion to be cherished for years to come. If done right and you hit the right spot into your lover’s heart, they will care for you and cherish you, as well!
Of course, as said before, chocolate boxes and flowers are a must. But, still you can do so much better by offering your lover something unique!
The Gift Makes The Wedding Anniversary Memorable!

My husband and I will have been married for twelve years this coming March. Twelve years - I can’t believe we made it! We started out as mere children, with no idea what the future held in store. Now, having matured and grown together, we have two happy, healthy children, a rambling old house, a pile of debt and each other.
Wedding anniversarie have always been special for our family. Even when we were young kids, we would spend hours and weeks deliberating on that perfect card to present for our parents’ big occasion! The ingredients for the cake and the actual cooking of it, were all handled by us. All our pocket money in coins and pennies went towards a magnificent present for them.
I remember one year, during a time period when our mother was in love with everything wicker and rattan, we found what we considered to be the best gift ever! In a little, whimsical gift shop in town, in the very front window sat a little wicker basket. Inside the basket were five coaster, each with an intricate wicker frame. The centre of each coaster had an asian-inspired water color painting, protected behind glass. My sisters and I were in love! This would indeed be our very best wedding anniversary present we had ever found for our parents! We entered the store, wide-eyed and shyly went to the customer service desk to ask about the price. We found out that the coaster set was only $7.50! That left us with just over $3.00 after tax - plenty to pay for gift wrapping and maybe even a bow!
Years later when things weren’t so happy in our family, I remember a huge argument between our parents. I’m still sad to remember seeing my mother clear one of the coffee table with a swipe of her arm. That was the coffee table that had been home to our little coaster set, that my sisters and I had bought with such love and esteem for our parents marriage.
Yes, there were plenty of battles on their life’s journey, but our parents stayed with each other. And we were able to celebrate each wedding anniversary with some kind of celebration or the other. Yes, our gifts as adults were costlier than the ones we used to buy when we were children. Now they were cards with best wishes and some expensive item which was bought with all our money pooled together. Despite everything, it is the wicker basket with the coaster set that has remained in everyone’s memory as the best and most caring gift of all. Due to the battle of yesteryears, the coaster set was broken in some places and scratched in others. But it occupies a pride of place on top of a shelf, put there by our parents to remind them of our love for them. It is also a reminder that their marriage survived the storms over the years and the fact that they have spent so much time together.
For our own children and in our own marriage, we too hold wedding anniversary celebrations in high esteem. Our children love to make special cards, we always have a cake and every year we can look forward to a special wedding anniversary gift from our two wonderful kids!
Planting Annuals Give You Options Each Year
October 16, 2008
Annuals are a variety of plant which grows and blooms only once in its lifetime, meaning they must be replaced annually. While this certainly has its drawbacks, annuals also have many advantages over other plants like perennials. For one their cost is much less, being grown primarily from seeds which can produce thousands of plants with just a single packets of seeds. You’re also not restricted by having the exact same plants in your garden every year if you’d rather have a change of scenery each year. Their bloom period is quite long, and they’re also great for cutting.
One of their disadvantages is that they bloom much later than established perennials, so a bed filled with nothing but annuals will be quite devoid of life for the early part of the growing season. Having a nice mix of annuals and perennials in each bed is a good way to alleviate this problem. There are a good number of hardy annuals as well which can be planted in the fall so as to get an early start on spring, and these are another option when it comes to balancing out your beds. These hardy annuals include poppies, larkspur and cornflowers. If you decide against planting them in the fall, you can at least get a hard start on them early in the spring once the ground is suitable for planting.
For your less hardy annuals, getting them started in seed pots early in March is a good plan of action. Otherwise you may be forced to wait a good month or more until all risk of frost has disappeared. First make sure to carefully pulverize your seedbed with a rake before planting and eliminate all lumps.
Once your seeds have been placed and lightly covered with soil you can gently tamp down the soil above them. Leave a stake in the ground, with some sort of identifying mark or sign to remind you which plant is in that spot. Small flower seed plants should be placed no more than an inch beneath the surface, while larger plants such as sunflowers should be planted to a greater depth, and from two to four feet apart.
Annuals are most often planted in rows, which can speed up the process when planting multiple plants, and gives them a nice alignment when they emerge from the earth. To do this, dig a shallow trench, again not more than one inch deep for flower seeds. This can either be done with a trowel or your hands. You can now fill it with seeds. Go ahead and leave more than you might think is necessary, you can always trim out any excess plants later. Thinning will likely be required at some point anyway to ensure each plant has sufficient room, so unless you’re really cautious on the seeding, this will be a required task at some point.
Before transplanting any plants from a pot to the ground, you should expose them to outside air for stretches of time beforehand to help get them acclimated in the landscape. The soil in the pot should also be used in its new location, which gardeners and landscapers rarely do in gardening and landscape preparation. If you can hold off on the transplanting until a cool and damp day, these are ideal weather conditions for this process. If the ground is dry be sure to water it both before and after transplantation. If you must transplant on a sunny day, set up some sort of barrier to provide the plant with shade. Once the plants are established these barriers can be removed.
Brighten Up Your Meals With Table Centerpieces!
October 13, 2008

Table centerpieces are inexpensive and readily available. Yet, when these simple decorations are used every day on the dining table, they enhance its beauty. And the family can end up feeling that every meal is a special occasion! So, why not include them as part of your meal settings then? Oh, you have no clue about how to go about selecting the right centerpieces? Well, the suggestions presented below should help you.
Table centerpieces can be varied. If you are fortunate enough to have a garden of your own, you can always have a large vase filled with fresh flowers on the table. But of course, if you have no garden of your own, then it is simply not possible to go about buying flowers every day! You can move on to something else, if vases are not suitable. After all, a centerpiece is meant to enhance the entire meal setting–not just that one point.
Other great table centerpieces are–candlesticks, decorative tins or boxes, tiny vases, votive candles, luminaria and baskets. In fact, any of these can complement a large vase to suit a particular theme.
Another point to be kept in mind is, “how many people are going to be at the table”? If it is only two individuals, a single tall vase filled with roses should do. Just keep it at one end. This creates a very romantic atmosphere!
If you’ve got a large gathering, you won’t want a tall vase of flowers, beautiful as it may be, to interfere with your guests’ conversation. It can be awkward to crane your neck around that vase to speak with someone across the table.
When there are many people at the table, the table could be decorated with small votive candles or luminaria that are spaced out at regular intervals. Along with them, keep small glasses or vases filled with small and dried flowers that are tied with colored ribbon bows. To complete this attractive theme is a table runner that runs underneath the entire length.
Another large group idea for a table centerpiece uses a couple of large ornate candlesticks with a thin profile placed towards the ends of the table. Shallow baskets filled with silk flowers are set spaced towards the center of the table. This is a good way to have a more formal look without interfering with conversations.
You could also use the decorations used on Christmas trees as table centerpieces. These include icicles, strings of beads and garlands. They are to be interwoven with candles and flowers. Or candles, flowers and small figurines can contribute to a theme. Whatever the case may be, the table is not to give a clustered look. This will happen if there are too many centerpieces.
A long, shallow basket filled with brightly colored fall gourds and “Indian” corn makes a simple yet beautiful table centerpiece. Fresh fruit in a couple of baskets and within reach of all your guests is both attractive and edible.
These are just a few ideas presented here. You can do more with your creative brain! Many people keep all these decorative pieces in a particular place–a special cupboard or in the sewing room. The idea is to have them on hand whenever the occasion demands it. These are but just a few ideas presented here. If you get your creative juices flowing, you could come up with many more, I am sure!
A Historical Peep Into St. Valentine’s Day!
October 11, 2008
People wait for Valentine’s Day, celebrated on the 14th of February the world over! This is the day to express feelings of friendship and love, and it is done through flowers, candy and cards. The receiver of the gifts understands how high in esteem he/she is! It is not only adults that participate, even schoolchildren and teenagers take this day seriously! Of course, the cards that they exchange are more romantic in nature–decorated with hearts and cupid symbols! It would be nice to know how all this started, for it has obviously been named after a person, St. Valentine. In the modern world, it is connected with “romance”.
For this story, we will have to go back as far as the third century, because it is when Valentine lived on this earth. This Catholic priest lived during the time when Emperor Claudius II was ruling over Rome. The Emperor was having difficulty in building up an army, since few were ready to join. They refused to be sent to far off places where they would have to stay away from their homes for long periods of time.
Frustrated and angry, the Emperor Claudius concluded that unmarried men would have nothing to lose and therefore be more willing recruits. His solution to the problem was to decree that marriage for young men be outlawed. This did not sit well with the young men, and those in love found the humble priest Valentine more than willing to perform the marriage sacraments for the ardent lovers in secret. Unfortunately, Valentine was found out and arrested by Claudius. He was thrown into prison and sentenced to death.
One of the prison guards felt sympathy for this priest. To help him while away his time, he permitted his young daughter to pay visits to Valentine. The two became close friends. Before he was taken to the gallows, Valentine gave his friend a letter with the signature, “From your Valentine”. And that has become the launch pad for the modern Valentine’s Day!
The Vatican eventually declared Valentine a Saint. In 496 A.D., Pope Gelasius I declared the date of his death in 270 A.D., February 14th, St. Valentine’s Day, a day to express sentiments of love and romance, celebrating the power of the spirit over the material world.
Over time, at least by the Middle Ages, this day became very famous and Europe celebrated it with gusto! In 1415, when the Duke of Orleans (Charles) was housed in the Tower of London as a punishment, he dispatched a card to his wife on February 14th. This practice continues on every Valentine’s Day all over the world.
Some men offered clothing to the women of their choice. If the women accepted these gifts, there would be many couples engaged to be married! Names of girls would be kept in bowls and lots drawn. The names would be pinned on the sleeves of the boys. In this way, they publicly declared their love! It was like wearing one’s heart on one’s sleeves! Others thought of different gifts and practices by which they could impress their loved ones. In Wales, hearts and keys were carved on spoons. The keys gave a message to the recipient that this particular heart could be unlocked.
Whatever it may be, St. Valentine’s Day is here to stay. And St. Valentine has been responsible for creating the most “loved” unofficial holiday in the world! The customs of yesteryears do not survive today; they have been replaced by candy, cards and flowers. Some enjoy candlelight dinners. Whatever, love has survived the stresses of time!

Are you a bride planning a wedding? You already know that it takes a lot of work and planning to pull off your perfect day. You may be looking at all kinds of things you want at your wedding including what flowers to make up your bouquet or what flowers to decorate the church in. Why not use silk wedding flowers instead of fresh flowers to decorate your church or make up your bouquet?
Silk wedding flowers are priceless, timeless flowers but don’t have a smell to them right off like fresh flowers do. This can be good if you have an allergy to fresh flowers. This isn’t the only reason you should use silk wedding flowers to compliment your best day.
Do you have a certain color in mind when you are putting together your wedding? Suppose the color of the fresh flower you want isn’t in season when you want to have your wedding? Then what do you do? You’ll either use something different or have the florist use silk flowers for your wedding.
Have you thought about keeping your bouquet after the wedding is over? Many women choose to do that but if they use fresh flowers to use, they’ll have to pay an additional $200 to $800 to have them preserved. Yet, if you are looking to curb your spending somewhere, use silk wedding flowers and preserve them for as long as you’d like. No cost!
What about marriage on a cruise ship? If you have plans to get married while out on open waters, bringing fresh flowers on board yourself is a no-no. If you plan to keep your bouquet and want to save money, use silk wedding flowers. Saving money is important when you realize how expensive cruise ships flowers can get.
Some women like to give their bouquets to their children when they are older. If you already want to keep your wedding dress, why not keep your bouquet? If you aren’t passing them down, then they’ll make wonderful and beautiful decorations on certain pieces of furniture.
Many florist deal in fresh flowers but they will also put together silk wedding flowers too. Did you hire a wedding coordinator to help you with the details? If so, they’ll narrow down where to find them for you. However, you’ll need to make them aware that this is your preference.
Most women choose to plan their own weddings so if this is your case, look to sources on the World Wide Web. There are many websites that offer silk wedding flowers for a low price. Don’t get frantic and buy the first one you see. Look first, look hard and then choose which made your heart go flutter. Good deals aren’t hard to find. You only need to look.
Flowers Vs. Plants: Which is a Better Gift?
September 23, 2008
When it comes to giving gifts, many people opt for flowers, but a plant can be just as good a gift. Both flowers and plants make excellent gifts for just about any occasion and are almost always welcome.
Choosing Plants as Gifts
A plant is a great present for someone in a stable situation who has space for it. Of course, plants don’t have to take up a lot of room and you can even choose one that can be replanted into an outside garden if the recipient is more likely to enjoy an outdoor addition. Plants as gifts should be something special. That doesn`t mean you have to pick a flashy plant, or one that is flowering, though this can be very nice. Look for a plant that will mean something to the recipient.
If you know your friend loves ficus, for example, because they remind her of her mother, then go ahead and get her a ficus. It will mean far more than an African violet or another prettier plant.
A few advantages to selecting a plant as a gift:
- They can be replanted. - They last longer than cut flowers. - A plant can be placed anywhere in a home. - They add oxygen to the air.
Be sure to opt for a plant that requires the level of care that can be afforded by the recipient. An exotic orchid might not be the best choice for someone who has a black thumb and is seldom home, but a fern or even a cactus could be a far better gift in this case.
Choosing Flowers as a Gift
Flowers are a more traditional gift than plants, but that doesn’t make them any better. For some people, those who simply have no desire to own plants or who can’t keep even a cactus alive, flowers are a great choice. Of course, they also make a good gift for any special occasion like the arrival of a new baby, an anniversary, or even a job promotion. Don’t forget to send birthday flowers as well.
With such a wide range of flowers available to choose from, you`re bound to find something ideal for the person you have in mind. It really helps if you can find out what their favorite flowers are, but you really can`t go wrong with a bright, beautiful bouquet, whether it`s made up of Gerber daisies or roses.
It`s a good idea to tailor the flowers to the relationship, as well. A dozen red roses for a co-worker aren’t very appropriate, but a bouquet of mixed flowers is. If you want to give roses to a friend, stick to non-romantic colors like yellow, coral or gold and shy away from red and pink which can be mistaken as a completely different gesture.
Flowers also lend themselves to small gift inclusions, like a teddy bear for a new baby, a bunch of chocolates for a lover or a figurine for that special someone in your life. These extras can add a lot more meaning to your gift and will be appreciated long after the cut flowers wilt and die. Whether you opt for flowers or plants as a gift, you`ll be making the right decision. They are both excellent gifts that are enjoyed greatly by the recipients. Which one you choose depends mostly on personal taste and what the recipient will enjoy most. Flowers and plants make for a more unique gift than many of the standard options and can be a fun way to mix it up a bit, especially if you add in a little extra gift tucked into the foliage.
