For those that were born in the era of the Baby Boom generation or before in the Silent Generation the opportunity to take a trip back in time by taking a vacation along route 66 is a moment of nostalgia that you just enjoy more than nearly any other road trip you have taken in years. Part of the route goes through the panhandle of Texas where you will find the people friendly and the countryside inviting.
The influences of the years greatly impacted the type of personality the different generations have, such as the Silent Generation, born between 1927 and 1945, were impacted by the Great Depression, WWII, and the Cold War. In the middle of the route 66 trip you will enter the panhandle of Texas where you will meet some super people.
The Baby Boom generation was more mobile, born between 1946 and 1964 they were impacted by the Viet Nam War, the civil rights movement and the assassinations fo the 60’s such as Dr. King and President Kennedy. These times began a mobile society with people going from their home areas to other portions of the country, whether due to being stationed someplace new following the war or just wanting to see what makes this nation great.
Leave Illinois on your family vacation and take route 66 to Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and then California. This trip of the heartland will give you a fabulous view of the people and cultures that make this country so great.
You will either begin your trip in the Chicago area and then end in Los Angeles. It gives you the opportunity to see such places as the Arch in St. Louis, the smaller towns along the way and the middle sized towns such as Springfield and the wonderful people of Missouri. Kansas will take you to Galena, Riverton and Baxter Springs with all the history of these communities and all there is to see. Tulsa is a great place to stop off and take a tour of this beautiful city. The hospitality will certainly leave a warm place in your heart. Here the people are so nice they actually stop to let a car enter the stream of traffic from a parking lot!
When you leave Oklahoma and enter Texas you will get into Amarillo. Here you have the opportunity to visit a wide range of western based museums and learn about the settlement of this region of the state. Route 66 in New Mexico takes you across the entire state beginning in Tucumcari and ending in Gallup. This area of the state offers you an opportunity to see the beautiful city of Albuquerque. Take the time to visit some of the museums in the city, learn about the Native American culture in this area of the state and see their beautiful artwork. Then you are entering the state of Arizona and on to California with all that it has to offer. What a fabulous family vacation.
